Terms of use
Last updated
These terms cover your use of ritetype.com. They're short because the deal is simple: RiteType is free to use for learning, and we ask you to use it fairly.
Using RiteType
RiteType is based in Los Angeles, California. By using the site, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
What you get
The lessons, typing tests, games and guides are free and don’t need an account. Your progress is saved in your own browser, so it can be lost if you clear your browser data or switch devices. We work to keep everything running, but we can’t promise the site will always be available or error-free. We may add, change or remove features at any time.
Children
Kids are welcome, and parts of the site are made for them. Children under 13 should use RiteType with a parent, guardian or teacher who has read these terms. The kids’ pages are described in the privacy policy.
Fair use
Please don’t:
- disrupt the site, overload it, or try to get into parts of it you’re not meant to reach;
- scrape or copy the site’s content in bulk, or republish it as your own;
- use bots or scripts to fake results, or to generate ad impressions or clicks;
- use the site in a way that breaks the law or harms other people.
Our content
The lessons, practice texts, games, artwork, logo and guides belong to RiteType. You may use the site and print our printables, such as the keyboard finger chart, for personal, family and classroom use. Teachers are welcome to share links and project the site in class. Selling our materials, or including them in another product, requires our written permission.
When you share a test result, you’re sharing a link that contains your score. Only share what you’re happy for others to see.
Ads and other sites
RiteType shows ads from Google AdSense and links to other websites, such as research sources in our guides. We don’t control those ads or sites, and we aren’t responsible for their content or for how they handle your information. If you see an ad that seems inappropriate, especially near content for kids, please tell us.
Paid plans and subscriptions
RiteType is free to use. We also offer optional paid plans: RiteType Pro (monthly or yearly), Classroom Pro (yearly, per teacher) and School & District plans (by quote and invoice). Prices are shown on the Pro and teachers pages before you buy. You need a RiteType account to buy a plan, and you must be an adult (or a school or organization) to make a purchase.
Payments are processed by Stripe. RiteType never sees or stores your full card details. Stripe’s own terms and privacy policy also apply to the payment.
Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) at the price shown when you subscribed, and your payment method is charged until you cancel. If we ever change a price, we’ll tell you by email before it applies to your next renewal, and you can cancel before then.
Cancelling. You can cancel anytime through the Stripe customer portal link in your receipt emails, or by emailing hello@ritetype.com from your account email. Cancelling stops future renewals. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
Refunds. Payments aren’t refundable, and we don’t give partial refunds for unused time, except where the law requires it. If something went wrong, such as a duplicate charge, email us and we’ll put it right.
School & District plans bought by invoice or purchase order follow the terms in the quote or agreement, where those differ from this section.
No warranty
RiteType is provided “as is.” Typing speed and accuracy results are estimates for practice, not official certifications. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose. We also aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost progress data, arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can’t be waived.
Governing law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, and any dispute will be handled in the courts of Los Angeles County, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally. We may update these terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new date, and continuing to use the site means you accept it.
